Bridges
If you've been told you need a dental bridge, this video will hopefully clear up some of the confusion, if there is any, around that diagnosis.
Usually, someone has recommended a bridge when you have a single missing tooth somewhere in your mouth. What's done is the teeth adjacent to the space are shaved down.
In the example I use in the video, they shave the teeth down quite aggressively, but normally we're able to take just a small layer off the tooth to prepare it to accept a new bridge. Once these are prepared, a mold is taken, and it's sent to a lab, which fabricates this bridge, sends it back to us, and we cement this in your mouth as shown in the video.
Once this is cemented, it's something that doesn't come out of your mouth and is fixed in there and looks very much, if not exactly like the original teeth that were there.
One challenge that bridges pose is cleaning underneath them, and it can be a challenge for many people, especially in terms of dexterity at the back of the mouth. So that's one negative about bridges. One positive aspect of bridges is that they can be completed within a two-week period or even less, whereas dental implants can take up to seven months to complete from start to finish and sometimes longer in certain scenarios.
If you have any questions about a bridge or any other procedure for that matter, please don't hesitate to contact our office.
