On every tooth, there is a layer of enamel that's approximately one and a half to two millimeters thick, as depicted in the illustration. When we examine X-rays, we are looking for small shadows that create a funnel-like shape within the enamel. If this funnel-like shape appears on the X-ray, we mark it with a little "W" in the chart, and that's what we mean by "watch."

Once this funnel progresses into the dentin and starts spreading laterally, it becomes a dental issue that requires filling.
